About Us

Welcome to SubtleDigs!

We are a team of two engineers who have a history in the military and take our curiosity and stubbornness to the next level — in a good way, of course.

Understanding how things work is built into our nature. We gravitated to careers in engineering because it involved problem-solving and critical thinking. Our constant desire to figure things out has led to activities like rock climbing, lightweight backpacking, and powerlifting.

Pursuits in the outdoors and travel have inspired our minimalist and outside-the-box way of thinking. We enjoy developing and understanding basic mechanics and then tweaking them for better performance and function.

“Locks hold a certain fascination in that there are secrets to them, that once understood can be used to master them. Like a chess match between you and the lock. We developed our lock picking kit to bring this problem solving to people who share this curiosity to problem solve.

Having traveled internationally and had armed guards escort me to my destination, caused me to think about what would happen if things didn’t go as planned.

How would I deal with a situation where I was reduced to the basics? If you needed to escape, could you? What if you were out and needed to build a fire but had no matches. Could you build a fire? If you are in a situation where you do not have 911 to call, what do you need to get yourself to safety or help those around you?

There is a mindset and skill set that you can develop to thrive in these situations – to be survivors.  We value this and are committed to helping people start down this path.”

Our company is passionate about more than problem-solving and minimalism - we’re also passionate about quality. Having an engineering background helps us understand what materials and designs make something strong, functional, lasting, and purposeful. We love talking with and working with industry professionals.

We’re always looking for better ways to get things done – sometimes it’s a better design, sometimes it’s a different or more fun way to accomplish the same task – so keep checking back for new stuff.

SubtleDigs is based in the USA. We are an online-only business, but if you have any questions, please feel free to contact us at info@subtledigs.com.
